Staircase Refinish
This stairway is right in the entry way to my home. I always found it difficult to keep the carpeted stairs properly cleaned. I would have to haul around my vacuum and even that would not keep the carpet fibers properly disinfected especially with two dogs and a cat. I decided to get rid of the carpet and refinish the wood. This was one of my longest DIYs to date taking many weeks and hours but the amount of money I saved was incredibly worth the effort I put in to give this staircase an up to date and refreshed look. I removed the carpet and had to pull hundreds of nails. I sanded down the old finish and filled the holes with Wood Filler. I sanded the steps a total of 5 times with different grits to get a smooth finish and wiped off the area with Mineral Spirits. I stained the steps, painted the risers and finished them off with two coats of Glossy Polyurethane.
